By all accounts, Freddies is a traditional family-owned and operated classic Italian restaurant, but oh it’s so much more. The Italian dishes, based on long-standing family recipes, are over the top delicious. But it’s the chops that have made Freddies a must destination for any visit to the Wilmington area. Located within the small community of Kure Beach, NC, Freddies is a hidden gem that somehow always seems to be busy. Decorated in traditional Italian style, Freddies is unassuming and comfortable, with it’s ever present wax drip candle of a thousand nights, and walls covered with family photos. While the atmosphere can be described as intimate and romantic, the service is as notable as the food. Waiters rush to and fro delivering plates of big food, Chianti, and expertly crafted drinks.

Start With A Garden Salad

Whether a table for two or a table of eight (not an uncommon sight), the meal starts with Freddies Salad, featuring Barb’s Dressing—made by the owner herself, Barbara Gargan. It’s slightly sweet, opening your taste buds to fill them with a fusion of fresh herbs and oils. Since its introduction several years ago, it has been a customer favorite! Now it’s even available for purchase to take home.

Freddies Famous Pork Chops

Certainly the quality of the food is what brings customers back again and again, but in particular Freddies has established a reputation far and wide for its steaks and chops. Perhaps it’s the Double Porks Chops with Grilled Peaches and Pecans or maybe its the Apple and Walnut Chops covered with Sauteed Apples and Walnuts in a sauce flavored with Amaretto—the menu actually features seven chop recipes, thick cut grilled chops topped in various ways. There’s also steak served various ways, as well as lamb.

Classic Italian Pastas

As you might expect, the selection of classic Italian dishes abounds, from lasagne to a side dish of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Alfredo, Parmigiana, Marsala, Piccata, Florentine, Cacciatore—there all here at Freddies. So many choices, you know immediately you’ll be back.

Notable Quotes

“Amazing from beginning to end! We were greeted by a very pleasant hostess that informed us the first available would be 8:30 pm and it was 6pm—lucky for us there were two seats available at the bar. The bartender was very pleasant as well. We had the crab dip, pork chops and ribeye steak—all excellent. We will be going back!”

“I travel around the country for business and I have traveled around the world (including Italy for two weeks) with my family. I’m so happy to have such a world class Italian restaurant right here in my back yard. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is quaint for either a great date night or a night out with friends. Everything I’ve tried here has been great but my wife and I really like the garlic pork chops. If you’re looking for a great restaurant in or around the port city, this is a must try!”

“You MUST visit Freddies.  The food is out of this world, the service is beyond compare, and the ambience will remind you of a small family restaurant in Europe.”

“The salad with house made dressing was absolutely to die for!  We could not stop eating it!  Warm homemade bread along with the salad was yummy. My husband had the best pork chop he’s had in a long time. As a side, he had pasta with homemade meat sauce. Very good!  I had shrimp scampi that was tender and very flavorful.”
