Ida Thai is a family owned and operated Thai Restaurant located in Carolina Beach right on Lake Park Boulevard. Very popular with the locals, Ida Thai is one of only a few authentic Thai restaurants operating in the greater Wilmington area. Ida Thai is an intimate restaurant offering limited seating indoors and outside, weather permitting.
Drop in any night and you’re likely to be warmly greeted by Rachanee Wechamongkolgorn, as her husband Jackie Bongkotmanee multi tasks in the open kitchen behind the front counter. Jackie earned his chops in West Coast Thai shops in Los Angles and Portland, but learned Thai cooking in Thailand.
“Rache” often is also cooking and serving up delicious Thai appetizers and entrees to her guests. While you night expect the traditional Thai dishes, such as curries, noodle dishes and fried rice, you should also discover some of the more exotic specialties, such as Panang Salmon, Som Tom (Papaya Salad), Roasted Duck, and Thai Three Flavor Fish.
Jackie and Rachannee are very accommodating to their customers. Because it’s a small space and this restaurant is so popular, you may have to wait for a table, but the experience is worth it. Or, like many do—call in a To Go Order and pick up on your way home. Thai Dishes travel easy and are excellent reheated, even the next day. Lunch at Ida Thai is a good bet too. Often less crowded, it’s and excellent way to sample the many delicious menu selections and discover some new favorites.

“We were visiting the Carolina Beach and we’re looking for a good restaurant with veggie options. We were attracted to this gem thanks to the great reviews on Yelp. This place is such a keeper. At the end of the day, my veggie friends were happy and we got to taste fresh seafood on the coast.” —Dipti M.
“Solid Thai place right on the beach. I got the Panang Salmon and received a pretty big portion of salmon in some pretty good curry sauce. I tried some of the other curry and Pad Thai and they were pretty flavorful. Pricing is okay, about $18 for the salmon. Will come back.” —Maggie L.
“We spent a long weekend in Kure Beach and found this awesome Thai restaurant for lunch. The food was fresh and delicious. Our waitress was fantastic, service was good and she was very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. It’s definitely a go to place for lunch while staying at the beach. We will be coming back.” —Heather S.
